ON THIS DAY in history in 1935, Jimmie Foxx was traded from the Philadelphia Athletics to the Boston Red Sox. In this recent acquisition to the OYRHS collection, Foxx and his son are shown in the International News Photo “Jimmy Opens ‘A Christmas Package’ Before Christmas” publicizing the news. Jimmie Foxx began his career with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1925. He played in Boston and with the Chicago Cubs before coming back to the Philadelphia to play for the Phillies at age 37. In 1951, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
